I am happy to see that an author of "serious" literature is defending romance novels. Although bad writing is undesirable, sometimes a predictable plot and mindless reading is exactly what's needed.
I go, every two weeks, to check the website. I laughed right out loud when I saw that Mr Martel had sent Where the Wild Things Are to Mr Harper. I wish I could read the inscriptions in each of the books.
what is sad, almost tragic, are the horrid letters of response - when they come they are so insipid and meaningless that they are outright embarassing. Who hired those writers - even Harlequin would turn them down.
